Passion, Inspiration, and Influences
1-3 Lessons Summary
Lewis Hamilton’s MasterClass starts with stressing the importance of focus and peak performance in Formula 1. This part of Hamilton MasterClass has plenty of videos from his past, particularly from childhood and the early days of his career in the F1.
Throughout the second and third lessons, Hamilton talks about how he pursued his passion with a never give up mentality. And how that played a role in Hamilton’s success. He also touches on his influences, showing his father as the prime example.
Personal and Team Growth
4-6 Lessons Summary
The fourth lesson in Hamilton’s MasterClass takes you in the seat of his Formula 1 car. While Hamilton gives advice on focus, working as a team, and driving an F1 car, he also talks about the tiny details of F1 racing.
The following lesson is about dealing with failure and learning from past mistakes. Lewis gives the 2008 Japanese Grand Prix as one of his biggest failures when he was a McLaren driver. Lewis talks about how he evolved his relationship with his team after this failure and how other athletes can do the same.
The last lesson dives deeper into working as part of a team in F1. Lewis talks about trust, teamwork, and empowering your teammates. This lesson prepare what comes next – being a trusted leader and a team member.
Discipline, Self-Care, and Leadership
7-10 Lessons Summary
The seventh lesson was my favorite part of Lewis Hamilton’s MasterClass. He talks about exercising self-discipline positively to find the balance between putting pressure and rewarding yourself.
Lewis transitions from self-discipline to optimizing your body for peak performance, physically and mentally. He talks about sport-specific physical training and the importance of nutrition and recovery. There aren’t any exercise lessons, but he gives plenty of advice while you see him prepare for the races.
The next lesson in this part is all about mental preparation. Lewis explains that mental preparation is key to success in Formula 1. Before finishing this chapter, Lewis covers the power of diverse interests like playing musical instruments and other sports. Lewis also shares his struggles as the first and only black F1 championship winner and having a diverse team.
Encouragement and Closing
11-12 Lessons Summary
The last two lessons are full of encouragement. Lewis Hamilton talks deeply about the racial abuse he faced throughout his life and career. He then explains that the Black Lives Matter movement was the key reason for the Mercedes car switching from silver to black.
His MasterClass comes to an end by showing that Hamilton is more than a champions winner Formula 1 racer. He acknowledges that he’s an inspiration to many. He then explains why he formed a commission to address the lack of diversity in Formula 1 and UK Moto Sports. This part of the last lesson is connected with his message: the importance of paving the way for others.
Lewis Hamilton finishes his MasterClass with a quick summary of the course and encourages everyone to ask uncomfortable questions to address issues.

My Firsthand Experience With Lewis Hamilton MasterClass
What I liked About Lewis Hamilton MasterClass
A course full of positivity
While this MasterClass focuses on developing a winning mindset by preparing body, mind, and spirit, it’s full of positive influence. He goes beyond these to talk about activism, influencing those who are underrepresented, and standing up for what you think is right in a positive, encouraging way.
Applicable to any sport/goal
Lewis Hamilton is known for his achievements in the race track that broke world records. But his advice on MasterClass applies to anything you’re working towards achieving. Whether it be a team sport, learning something new, or even university classes, his teachings can be applied to any aspect of life.
Scenes from his childhood and early days in the F1
The videos of Lewis Hamilton racing remote control cars with his father to driving a go-kart before becoming an F1 driver adds sentiment to his MasterClass. It’s inspiring to see where he started and these add to the appeal of the class.
What I Didn’t Like about Lewis Hamilton MasterClass
There could be more F1 content
Hamilton covers the life of an F1 driver and details certain things like how heavy the helmet is, the cockpit, the seat molded to his body, and so on. While these are good (and fun) to learn, you may already know them. I would hope to see more F1-related content.
Some lessons lack context
Hamilton genuinely connects his life as an F1 driver to any other athlete or anyone pursuing their goals. However, some lessons follow a vague approach. For example, he details mental preparation and explains his routine. Then, he ends it with finding what works best for you. I wish he gave more context to these lessons with examples and further tips.

Does the Class Live Up to the Hype?
I honestly was hesitant to watch Hamilton’s MasterClass due to the lack of F1 content. I thought if he doesn’t teach F1, what’s he doing there? Come to find out, the course well exceeded my expectations. Not only his MasterClass provided valuable information and ways to improve as a person, but it was also fun to watch.

I found numerous reviews of others agreeing with my point of view on Lewis Hamilton’s MasterClass.
Here’s a product marketer on LinkedIn saying it was one of the most valuable MasterClass courses she’s taken.
Commentators on Twitter and Reddit also agree with this view.
-“Lewis Hamilton’s MasterClass is one of the best I’ve watched. This guy gets it. Mentality, discipline, focus, ambition, interests and impact outside of Formula 1. Top!”
“-I did, and I found it very insightful although it did fell a little rushed compared to the others available on the app. For instance Chris Hadfields masterclass was very in depth and actually had a lot of unseen NASA footage. Lewis’s did not but it definitely gave an interesting insight into his life and his mindset. Would still recommend”
